We're excited to announce that we have begun redevelopment of the National Forward Works Viewer, with the help of Catalyst IT, New Zealand's experts in open source solutions.
Being nearly a decade old, the NFWV is being treated to an early birthday present. It's getting a well needed makeover with a few bonus features to make the system more resilient, future proof and more intuitive to use. Our overall aim is to improve the user experience - keeping things simple whilst improving functionality.
An example of what the new system could look like. More map-focussed, with slide out menus detailing projects and stages.
Our initial focus is on building a like-for-like system so that we can retire the old system and migrate to the new one by the end of the year, all being well. Rebuilding the existing product on modern, open source technology means that future updates and features will be much faster and easier to implement - and we've got an exciting list of new features up our sleeves!
With a new, map-centric modern interface, an improved layout and upgraded usability, we're positive the first release will be an exciting improvement to all users.
Future releases will include notifications, the ability to 'flag' projects, customisation of your favourite views, a project dashboard and data visualisation, improved data upload and download processes, creation of a national asset register and an open national catalogue of geospatial data layers.
Keep your eyes peeled for a system launch date and new feature releases, and if there's anything you're keen on seeing in the new platform, let us know by dropping us an email.
